REDUCING WASTE
Recycling waste helps to conserve energy, which is vital to slow
down global warning. By extracting raw materials from the earth,
environmental damage is caused. This can be helped by recycling our
waste, and more importantly REDUCING the volume of it.
The three key areas to consider regarding waste are :-
Minimising, re-using and recycling
To minimise waste the local authorities could plan to introduce
education and awareness campaigns, thus achieving a significant and
lasting reduction in household waste.
Re-using. Not all waste can be re-used, but domestic goods may
be given to charity, sold in jumble sales or even car boot sales.
Local authorities actively encourage this process by supporting
facilities to repair and re-use goods.
Recycling is the processing of waste to produce a usable
product. Devon already recycles 13% of its household waste, but
recyclable materials are still using up landfill space. District
councils can collect separated recyclables from doorsteps, enabling
them to be reprocessed almost immediately.
